There’s something about sitting in green space, putting your legs on a chair and reading a book as you enjoy and take in every moment. It just feels so relaxing, as you take in the fresh air around, and enjoy the sun. Ama am I the only one who feels that way?
Thika Greens Golf Resort is one of these places I would have loved to do just that. We visited this place a few days back and just loved everything about the gardens. We got in and immediately compared it to the photos that were on its website and honestly, what you see (or saw) is what you get.
The place is located on Old Murang’a Road, off Nairobi-Thika-Nyeri Highway. I fell in love with it at first sight.
We walked in and were greeted by jovial staff who offered us breakfast before we could start on our activities for the day. Breakfast was made up of samosas, arrowroots, sweet potatoes, eggs, pancakes, fruit and a cup of tea. It was not out of the ordinary food, but tasty all the same.
As we walked around their gardens, we could not stop taking photos. In all honesty, the view is just breathtaking.
Come lunch we were offered a three-course buffet meal. This was mostly made up of locally made food – ugali, chapatti, kales, beef stew, etc.
I did not taste everything and decided to go with what I thought I would enjoy – potato wedges, fish fillet, chicken and veggies. Again, the food was okay.
The problem came in when we had to wait for our drinks and constantly had to remind the staff that we needed drinks. This took a while and that is when we realized that they may either be understaffed or simply put, just slow in offering services.
By the time we were done with all the activities for the day, we decided to hang around a little and catch up, while having a few drinks. And so, we ordered drinks that ended up taking a long time before they were brought. When the waitress came, she had forgotten about yet another order. At this point, we or at least I was getting a little worked up and made it a point to let them know that we thought them quite slow.
Even with that, the second round of drinks took a while before coming.
Our conclusion was that they serve their club members more efficiently, as compared to other clients. So, if you would like to enjoy unlimited service, consider being a member.
I thought their grounds were perfect – if you are looking to have an event, consider this place. Their food was not out of the ordinary, and their services generally were slightly under average.
