Mother’s Day 2022 is in less than two days. I know the time seems short, but there is still time to get that cute card, a pretty bouquet of fresh-cut flowers, and prep that seemingly obligatory social media post about your mother.

Most of the world has finally opened up – even more reason to take advantage of this and celebrate mother’s day! This is a day set aside to celebrate the woman that shaped you into who you are today. It is a beautiful opportunity to say “thank you” to that incredible mom of yours and all of the mom figures in your life. Mothers come in all designs and capacities throughout our lives and should be lifted up.

Maybe you want to do something different for your mom this year and don’t know where to start. Or perhaps, you are like me, a procrastinator, and you are only realizing you don’t have much time left 😅.

If you are looking for how to make mother’s day special, here are ways you can celebrate your mother this mother’s day.

Pamper Yourselves

The older I have gotten, the more I have come to know that being a mom is a job for life. My mom is almost living the empty nest life, but she is still ‘momming’. And like her, I’m sure your mom is too. So, take some time and treat yourselves to a spa day – a classic mani-pedi appointment. A few hours spent together will be a good reset you and your mom need before going back to your moving lives.

Plan a Getaway

This doesn’t have to be on the mother’s day weekend, where finding accommodation may be tricky. See if there is another weekend that you and your mom could take a little getaway. Take a small road trip and visit that vacation spot you or your mom has always dreamt about. Treat yourselves for a few days, have endless conversations and create memories together.

Take a Class Together

If you and your mom have wanted to learn a new hobby or skill, make it happen this Mother’s Day. Sign up for a class that you can take together. You can try painting classes, a cooking/baking class, or even a fun new workout class. This could be the beginning of a new passion for you both!

Get Her a Bouquet of Flowers

If your mom loves flowers, get her a sweet bouquet of flowers. You could also use this opportunity to go plant shopping together too.

Arrange a Mother-Daughter Luncheon

Put together an evening dinner or a Sunday brunch for your friends and your moms to get together. It’s an opportunity to catch up and bond even more and a great chance to celebrate all of the moms in your circle that have impacted you all in so many ways. Let your moms feel a part of your tribe.

You could also invite her over for a special home-cooked meal. She will love the treatment (and will probably have to force herself not to step in and help).

Surprise Her

If you and your mom don’t live in the same city, make this Mother’s Day special and surprise her with a spontaneous trip back home. She will love seeing you, and that extra step of thoughtfulness and planning will make her feel very loved. You could probably use a mini-break from your hectic life as well.

Make it a Family Day

For many moms, family is the most important thing. Take a day to simply get the whole family together and be with each other. Share a picnic in the park, or get a meal at her favourite restaurant. She will love the simplicity of just having her whole family in one room. Give her the assurance and peace that her kids are okay and still care about her.

Shop, Shop, Shop

It is true that your mother is the most honest shopping buddy you could have. No matter how old you are, she’s the one that will tell you if that top isn’t really working for you or that those shoes on clearance are a must get. Plan a day for you and your mom to hit the mall or your favourite boutiques. Whether you are getting your wardrobe ready for the next season, or just window shopping, it will be a day filled with lots of chatting and a chance for you both to live out your best life.

Plan an Evening Out on the Town

Maybe a favourite singer of both of yours is doing a concert nearby. Get dressed up, share a yummy bite to eat, see a show, and have a proper girl’s night out.

Make a Customized Photo Book

Photographs are one of the best ways to save a memory and make it accessible to come back to. Bring the photo album back by making your mom a photo book that has pictures of you and her through the years. You will have a sweet time strolling down memory lane putting it together, and she will appreciate the gift that will keep giving.

Give a Heartfelt Homemade Gift

Moms love homemade gifts filled with thought and care. Give her a gift you created using your talent and passion. Record a song, paint a canvas for her living room, write an article just for her, or print and frame the best photograph you have taken. You are so talented (yes, you are), and she is so proud of you. Give her something heartfelt she will admire forever.

Write a Note

If all else fails, be sure to let your mom know just how special she is. A handwritten note shows great thought and is so very personal. Share with her how thankful you are and just how much she has helped you become the woman (or man) you are today. A text is nice, but a letter written by hand can mean so much more.

Here’s to our moms, our best friend’s moms, our grandmas, our amazing mentors, and even the mom friend in our friend groups. Any woman that has ever done something for you that resembles holding you and wiping back your tears as life throws you another punch should be celebrated this Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day! ❤
