I know, I didn’t have a post for you guys on Friday and that is why this week, we will have two posts!!
So, let’s get right into it, yes?
I first had this appetizer, with my family, at a Chinese restaurant.
Then, as we grew up, my mum always collected food magazines and it is in one of these that we saw the recipe for this. Life for us has never really been the same…Literally.
Spring rolls are what they are called. I made vegetable and meat spring rolls.
Here is what you will need for the vegetable ones:
Onions, finely chopped
Spices of your choice (in my case black pepper is a must)
What to do
Add oil to the cooking pan and on medium heat, put in the onions and garlic. Cook until perfectly brown then add the bell pepper. Cook for about 2 minutes and season with spices of your choice. Add in the soy sauce and sugar and let it simmer for a short while. Then let it cool.
Mix 2 tbsp of cornstarch flour with two tbsps of water in a cup, until it is paste-like.
In a big bowl, put 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp corn starch, and a little salt. Mix all the dry ingredients.
Slowly add water and knead like you would, chapati. Then make small circular balls and then roll each of them until thin.
Fold the sides of the already rolled dough and fill the center with the already cool vegetables.
Use the paste to hold the sides together. Do this for all of them.
In a frying pan, fry until light brown.
Serve while hot.
It takes a lot of time, but it is all worth it. You can have it as an appetizer, or if you are like me, as the main meal because what are appetizers?
